Impact investments and socially responsible investments are the two highly trending terms in investment community. Though not everyone wants to understand and even to hear about them, and so far just very few want to try to implement them. Acceptance of the need for only thoughtful investments that do not hurt the humanity and our planet requires in the first place a very large mentality shift. Who has already paved the road for mentality shift, who will continue to nurture it and support? And who will discover and point all the benefits?
To answer these questions we have attended the Spring of Philanthropy event in Brussels, Belgium. The gathering of the most caring minds for the future and well-being of humanity in asset management, banking industries, policy making, NGOs and Family offices was organized by King Baudouin Foundation.
Her majesty Belgian Queen Mathilde has given a speech on the directions modern philanthropy is taking at the closing day and stayed to listen for the panel discussions.
In our interview with the Managing Director of King Baudouin Foundation Luc Tayart de Borms we have only brought up a few questions for the investment community, without repeating the intimate discussions during panel presentations and debates. Luc de Borms has kindly shared his opinion on the correlation of impact investments and philanthropy, the changes that long term investments are bringing into philanthropy and of course, we have discussed the uniqueness of European philanthropy and its capacity.
