While USA is debating the rejection of sustainability in the energy market EU takes very decisive steps towards totally sustainable markets. In our interview with Annika Hedberg, Senior Policy Analyst at European Policy Centre (EPC) we discuss the Energy Union Package, which the European Commission published at the end of November and will be further discussed with the European Parliament and the EU member states. The package contains e.g. legislative proposals on energy efficiency, renewables, and new electricity market design, as well as a number of other initiatives to accelerate innovation and encourage investment in the EU. We focused on the following topics:
Is energy efficiency highlighted in a new package as a first priority?
How Circular Economy and Energy Union are connected, if at all?
What energy policies will come into force as a result of 2016?
Electricity market in EU: should energy efficiency and demand respond be more carefully considered when developing electricity market in Europe?
How Renewables will be incorporated into the Energy market in EU?
Electricity market: challenges and opportunities.
