Jobs creation is the question of utmost importance in the world with its’ growing population and in Africa in particular with its’ population growth that should reach 2 billion in 2050. So are the environmental impact of the modern civilization, waste accumulation and processing, losses of raw materials, the list can go on and on. Is it possible to solve all the mentioned above problems together, now one by one or we are definitely out of time for step by step approach. Picking Alpha talked to Gerardo Patacconi, Officer-in-Charge, Department of Agri-Business, UNIDO to get his answers to two major questions. Will circular economy produce the largest quantity of jobs in agri-food sector in the next 5 years and will circular economy generally be the major driver in jobs production.
Though Gerardo Patacconi noted that forecasting the future of jobs development is a very difficult task, especially in agri-food sector nevertheless he comprehensively depicted the process of holistic – circular mode of production which will be resulted in multiple growth of jobs and will minimize if not eliminate the waste problem. It is equally fair both for agri-food sector and whole economy in general.
